Powerful EF-3 Tornado Rips Through Southside of Chicago

On Sunday, June 20 in the late evening hour, a powerful EF-3 tornado tore across a large swatch of DuPage County, moving through Naperville and on into Woodridge. More than 100 homes were damaged from this tornado, the most significant and strongest to touch down in the Chicago metropolitan area since 2015.

As soon as the skies and cloud cover were clear, our planes were up in the air to capture the devastation less than 24 hours after it occurred. The collected ortho and oblique imagery was sent to our processing center and is now available online in the GIC library. This ultra high-res imagery assists insurers and emergency managers alike in being proactive in their response to this catastrophe.

You can view the Gray Sky imagery for the affected area in Viewer or via our APIs. In addition, our partner Munich Re has analyzed the imagery and provided a color-coded damage assessment in the GIC Viewer. Below is a small sample of what the people in south Chicago are dealing with today.
