Monitoring Severe Weather Across Central and Southern Plains and into portions of the Midwest

GIC is monitoring conditions across the Central and Southern Plains and into portions of the Midwest. A strong upper-level trough of low pressure will advance across the western US and then across the Great Plains Friday night and Saturday. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday afternoon through Friday night, including a likelihood for severe weather, across a large area of the Plains. The Storm Prediction Center currently has highlighted an Enhanced Risk of severe weather, with the expectation of thunderstorms producing very large hail, locally damaging winds, and possibly a few tornadoes. The threat of severe weather and flash flooding from heavy showers and thunderstorms will advance east into the middle and lower Mississippi Valley Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. If conditions worsen and you have requirements for imagery collection, please reach out to grayskay@geointel.org.
