How Insurers Can Use High-Resolution Aerial Imagery Before and After Natural Disasters

An Insurance Institute of London Webinar

Learn how members of the Geospatial Insurance Consortium (GIC) are using aerial imagery and geospatial data to inform, improve, and accelerate their decision-making in claims, underwriting, and more. From its post-catastrophic disaster response program to its aerial imagery collections in 20-plus countries, see for yourself how the GIC supercharges digital innovation for the insurance industry.

In this webinar, you’ll learn about the GIC’s massive library of aerial imagery and how its best-in-class imagery can help insurers see more—and even help make better decisions hundreds, if not thousands, of kilometers away from a natural disaster.

As an example, our speakers will focus in on one disaster-riddled week in August 2021 where the GIC activated their fleet of planes to collect hi-resolution imagery of Hurricane Ida in Louisiana, Caldor Fire in California, and tornadoes in the Mid-Atlantic. You’ll see aerial imagery captured before the natural disasters. Then aerial imagery captured after the disaster events. Plus, you see how AI-generated analysis highlights where the biggest impacts were and where insurers and emergency managers needed to triage their responses.

Lastly, longtime GIC member FM Global will illustrate how they have incorporated GIC imagery into their internal workflows to help clients become more resilient before a catastrophic disaster, and how to help customers rebound quickly post-catastrophe.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how aerial imagery helps insurers make more informed decisions
  • See how imagery of natural disasters, like the floods in Germany and Hurricane Ida, can reduce expenses and speed up recovery times
  • See how imagery captured at a specific time and location can help clients become more resilient and help reduce fraud
