View Hurricane Ian Damage From All 4 Sides with Oblique Imagery

Multiple galleries of imagery from Hurricane Ian have been shared across news outlets online and on TV, showcasing the massive devastation for all to see. There is no question that this storm unleashed record-breaking levels of destruction across entire communities, especially the hard hit areas of Fort Myers and Sanibel Island. But the lingering question for many of those impacted, and those that insure them, is “How do we begin the process of restoration and rebuilding?”

One way our members seek to understand the level of damage on a customer’s home is by using our high-resolution Oblique imagery. This product goes beyond a top-down look and provides a 45-degree view from all four cardinal directions – north, south, east, and west. Our Gray Sky fleet collected Oblique imagery in the hardest hit areas from this storm so members could be better prepared with enhanced visualization on properties.

As shown below, Oblique imagery can provide the next level of detail on a home or building. It allows an insurer to virtually tour a property without the need of being on the ground to verify damage. And when roads and infrastructure are heavily damaged, like with Hurricane Ian, it can be near impossible to send an adjuster out onsite for weeks. This imagery helps insurers begin the recovery process for their customers as soon as possible.
